Instead of solving these problems, politicians are using hate and fear to make you dislike the “other” side.
Politicians do this because they know it will spark intense emotion in people, and create a greater chance of generating media attention and soliciting campaign donations. Both vital for reelection.
And in Washington, reelection is King.
Being a politician means access to special interest groups and mega donors – the ability to trade favors, get rich, and feel important.
When politics is practiced this way, the real losers are the American people.
If we want solutions to the problems that afflict Americans, we need to first de-rig our political system.
We can do that. We can change the rules of the game so that we attract politicians who want to serve Americans instead of serving themselves.
Working together, we can de-rig the system and get Washington back into the business of solving the problems that matter to Americans. Working together, we can get the government we really deserve.
